Here is the story of Little Biddy Liddy & her piglets

Little Biddy Liddy, a pregnant 8 month old piglet from the Asheville rescue, had an emergency c-section on April 5. Liddy began nesting about 10:30 Thurs night. I slept within hearing distant of her and checked on her throughout the night and into the morning, at 3:45 AM I noted she had stopped nesting and laid down to begin her hard labor. I was concerned about her ability to have the piglets naturally because of her young age and small size. So at 4:30 I gave her a vaginal exam and found a little snout at the end of my finger tip. Again I gave the exam at 5:30 and found the little snout was still in the same position. I knew the piglet should have moved further down the birth canal so I called Dr. Wilber. He advised me to bring her in for a c-section. Little Biddy Liddy was so small, I was able to carry her from the house to the van all by myself. She had 4 piglets, all lived. The staff at Quakertown Veterinary Clinic named the four pigs: Beautiful Beau, Cool Hand Luke, Darlin’ Daisy and Enus. Enus, was a little slow to learn how to nurse at first but by the time he was 6 hours old he was chowing down with the rest of them. Enus & Darlin’ Daisy are both black with very similar looking faces. Luke & Beau look very different, they are black with white markings plus they both have “brown” highlights, something I have never seen before!

Liddy was spayed while on the table for her c-section so as soon as she weans the kids, she will be available for adoption. Liddy is a very adoptable indoor pet. She was very scared of everything when she was brought into the kitchen to have her piglets. It didn’t take her long to become comfortable with the routine of the farm kitchen and was rolling over for belly rubs. I think she is my favorite and will certainly make a wonderful pet.

One of our great volunteers has agreed to take the piglets and socialize them at her home… all four of them!! Any inquiries into the adoption of one of these babies should contact Eileen directly at wanamakerkewan@aol.com They will go to Eileen after the three males have been neutered, which should be soon after they turn 4 weeks and when they are eating on their own. Ross Mill Farm is hoping to get them off the mom as soon as possible because she was under conditioned when they got her and the nursing piglets are draining her of her own nutrition. She is too thin but is still producing enough milk. The attached pictures are the piglets at 3 weeks old.

Dear Susan & Richard ~  Guess what, Homer and Madeline are doing much better together. I've been letting Madeline give him his vitamin or an occasional Lullabell Treat (you can buy these from the RossMill Farm.com) and he has let her pet him and even stand next to him I'm so excited!!! Madeline is pretty thrilled too!!!! I still don't let her near Homer unless I'm right next to her.

Homer is quite the character. Today I was giving the dogs a treat and they don't get a treat unless they sit or lay down well Homer got right in the middle of the two of them and tried to sit so he could get a treat. Then he decided he would lay down for a treat can you believe that? It was so cute!!!! He is so active!!!! Loves to be outside eating grass and weeds. Drinks at least two to three bowls of water with a little juice or beer. He rules the roost when it comes to the other pets in the house. He is doing great. His skin is looking better not as dry. He is just wonderful. My husband says he would prefer a house full of pigs over our dogs.

Well Take Care, Mariela

hey ~ Hannah has saved our lives just one more time....apparently we had a gas leak and she didnt like the smell...she woke me up, very agressively....it really stunck, I thought it was a skunk ( it is the beggining of spring) so I went to close windows and realized that none were open.....I went to the kitchen for a drink and looked and the stove was marked as if it were on. We had a gas leak....Hannah would not rest until all of the windows were open and every member of the family was awake....the fire company was totally impressed with my baby...the gas leak fixed and we are sooooo thankful that God created such wonederful creatures....I am thinking of changing her name to ANGEL what do you think?
